BO7H B4RRELS 2,453
My gaming rig is set up in my basement. I have WiFi upstairs. In the basement, I've got a WiFi extender with my PC plugged into it via an Ethernet port. Obviously, running a line down here would be best. But, would I be better off getting a WiFi card for my PC to reach the WiFi, or keep using the Ethernet plugged into the extender? Additional info: Router = Nighthawk R7000 Extender = Netgear DST AC 1900 I bought a combo like this. Thanks!!! It's not just a wifi extender, it also has the capability for me to plug Ethernet into it (which is what I'm currently doing.) My question is... Is a wifi signal or the powerlines faster in general? Plumbers Crack 4,062
Try a ping test on both systems..as long as you use the same target server, that should tell you Thanks to Capn_Underpants for the artwork Link to comment https://forevergaming.co.uk/forum/forums/topic/7850-wifi-or-plugging-into-a-wifi-extender-via-ethernet-port/#findComment-129048 Share on other sites
BO7H B4RRELS 2,453
I don't have wifi with my PC. I'd need to purchase a wifi adapter if Ibwere tondo that. I'll probably just roll with what I've got until I get enough motivation to run an ethernet down there. The3rdWalker 1,271
I have gigabit internet with a power line adapter. Speeds to my main PC are around 600mbps. I love my power line. Diddums 4,346
If you have the option for wired, wifi instantly becomes irrelevant. Homeplugs are fucking ace. GazzaGarratt 11,049
I'm with the wired opinion above mate but if that doesn't work then I have a booster with my Nighthawk that seems to work extremely well - better than powerline adapters. However, I think it will also depend on your wiring in your house and where you put the Powerlines as they in theory should be better because you can run an ethernet cable from them - unfortunatley my house they are diabolic because of the separate circuits we have.
