Best man speech

Recommended Posts

Giving one in a few weeks. Any tips ?

I have no issues with public speaking, im thinking more about content

Hes been terrified that im going to absolutely destroy his life with a story about his briefcase of porn infront of his conservative grandparents but i was thinking part of my best mans gift would be to not do that (been letting him stew thinking that i will [emoji23])

My thoughts are so far:

- keep it short and not rant on about stories about me and the groom

- speak equally about bride and groom. Thank parents bridesmaids etc.

- speak about why they are a good couple, role of friends and family and supporting them and shit

- have a dig at his evangelica texan inlaws that invited themselves to the wedding and to stay at his parents house without being invited.

I'd definitely leave the suitcase of porn out, I always find that when people do jokes like that they end up backfiring.

Important thing is, be funny but not a dick.

Talk about both of them as individuals, then speak about them as a couple.

Not sure about the inlaw bit but that's only because I don't know them or how either side would react.

The most important thing you can do is be yourself and don't push it too hard. Although telling you to be yourself probably isn't the best idea 😜

Best of luck to you dude!

Definitely don't have a go at the in laws, not a good idea to have the families at war on day 1

Practise out loud, especially any jokes, public speaking is different to telling jokes, got to get the timing right

Funny stories about the groom is best , but nothing he will hate you for ( had a mate get married whose best man was on strict orders not to mention his college nickname of The Caretaker, as he'd serviced so many old boilers )

I don't want to admit but you've got some funny bones in you mate ;)

The best ones I've heard are always packed with jokes. You've got to find one gem of a secret of the groom but as Rich and Bob said, not to piss the in laws or your best mate off.

If there is a common connection betweem you and your mate then you could keep that to the theme of your speech. People like speeches that have synergy all the way.

Lmao i was joking about the dig at the inlaws [emoji23]. He got his dick stuck in a toy train when he was 4 and apparently im allowed to tell that one but the brief case of porn is off limits..haha
