Cauldrons

I haven't had chance to come across one yet but reading a few PPRs make them sound rather exciting and tense.

 

What are they all about? How many are there? Would be good to learn more and if there's different tactics for specific cauldrons.

Reminded me of the first tomb raider game, Ran my first one in full on stealth mode, except for intense battle at end, one of the most memorable experiences of a great game

There are 4 if I'm not mistaking.

Each has a machine connected to a kind of server you must kill after overriding (best comparison I can think of) and most have machines you must kill but one has humans. 

When overridden you unlock the possibility to override certain machines.

Can't think of any spesific tactics other than be fully stocked on health and ammo and resources to craft more before entering.

I did the one with mostly humans without ammo (forgot to stock up) but I had the Shield Weaver armor so didn't care.

Bring traps. Lots, and lots, of traps. They're dungeons full of loot and stuff. Killing the end boss grants you the ability to hack more machines. That's all you're getting out of me, go in blind like I did, it's amazing

How far into the game will I see one? I'm only 15% complete and just finished Sona quest.

I'm not used to setting up traps yet but I suppose that will come.

You can find them at any time. They are marked ontm the map with a blue sign. 

First one I found I was close to one and got a signal on my Focus. 

I haven't bothered with traps when doing cauldrons. Just bring lots of ammo and resources to make more on the way.

I think there is only one in Nora territory, which you can find at any time.  One of the side quests tells you where it is but I can't remember which one.

Did my secone one of these the other day. No dungeon, basically just an arena with a T-Rex. Freeze arrows and sticky bombs and it was over in seconds.

It was Zeta, with a Thunderjaw as the boss.
