Luseth 1,971
This isn't a tongue in cheek following last nights antics but genuinely serious. I think most mobile phones are generally the same, the OS isn't really too far apart except android is more open than IOS. If I wanted to buy the top of the range iphone or samsung they would be about the same price and have very similar specs as far as I am aware. If I wanted options of cheaper phones then Android makes sense but it's not really on the cards currently. However I have my phone contract ending over christmas and was thinking of giving mine to my wife and picking up a new one as her's is a bit crap. I like my iphone, it's familiar, I have my photos and e-mails and everything synced between my phone and ipad (which I have no intention of swapping out for an android) and cloud share with the family which makes it easy to share photos and such as well. So to me currently as far as I am concerned it would make life harder being apart from the same OS as my wife. So tell me why android is better? Tar-Eruntalion 514
In your case since you use the whole ecosystem of apple with all its amenities etc android isn't better and won't be for a while if ever, googles software offerings aren't as much a complete package as apples partly because android isn't a monopoly in hardware like apple is and so every company tries and fails to make its own ecosystem but for me that ecosystem and the "walled garden" with the apple knows the best mindset in everything is a prison, so even if I was a millionaire I wouldn't buy an apple phone, even in my android I barely use googles or in my case samsungs software because I don't want to be locked in any ecosystem, the best thing imo with android is that it's not that locked down, you can flash a custom rom if you don't want the stock one, or choose to use programs from other stores like fdroid for example which hosts open source programs with no ads, tracking etc the customizability also is unmatched imo, you can replace the stock launcher and make it look however you want and people can make some impressive looking ones and lastly it's the price where the difference is huge outside the newest, top model of any company, if I can find a phone that does 80-90% of what the latest galaxy or iphone does while paying not even a fifth of what they cost why not choose that? I have the samsung galaxy a50 right now which is the most expensive phone I ever bought at 250. I bought it when it came out 5 years ago and it's still perfect and don't plan to change it anytime soon, so what more can the top of the line galaxy or iphone of the time offer me beyond the better camera? J4MES OX4D 10,052
I use an iPhone for personal and an Android for work and it really boils down to what you are used to in terms of the interface and if you use Google applications as a primary i.e gmail. If you don't want to have a phone contract and don't wish to pay £700-1300 for a new iPhone either, then Android at is worth exploring as you can get very good brand new phones in the region of just a couple hundred quid whereas a 5 year old refurbished iPhone will still cost that on eBay. Personally I prefer iPhone because it's what I've used since 2007 and I am used of the interface and functionality more. Android is still great as it covers a multitude of devices of varying quality and costs but I'm not a fan of a lot of Google shit as it's just needlessly convoluted most of the time. Anything Apple is a total rip-off though but if you can get a good value contract for a device worth supposedly 4-figures then that is probably more appealing than a cheaper Android. The3rdWalker 1,274
In a time where phones are all the same, it doesn't matter. If you insist on super user level control then sure, have at it. It's splitting hairs this day and age. If you need it it's just as easy to jailbreak an iphone as it is to install a root kit on an Android.
