I think I got this in a Humble Bundle last year and not sure if I ever added it to Steam. It is supposed to be a very good game, maybe time I checked it out.

It's painful we both have been playing it for a few hours. I think I won an achievement for being banished as leader is quick order!!

@TurboR56Mini  happened to be browsing Steam and fell upon a game that I totally forgot I wanted to play. I was waiting for it to come out, then I forgot about it.

I remember reading about Frostpunk before it was released. It sounded so intriguing. From what I remember, it was a steep learning curve. It was harsh. It was not forgiving. It was challenging. It pushed the boundaries on your ethics to keep your city surviving.

I dumped the last hour into the game. And, my golly gosh. It lived up to all of that. This is not an easy game. You need to think about how you will survive even the first day. How will you use your resources effectively to make it through the night. I must have restarted about 6 times - each time trying something different and being better than the last. This... this is making me think.

And, the graphics and the music? Well done!

I'm going to be fiddling with this game for a bit in-between Valheim and my once in a while wanderings in D2 for the laughs. This is going to be my time suck for a while.

OK OK, it's been a few days since I've built anything worth posting. After chatting with @GazzaGarrattthe other day, there was an expressed need to smelt IN the swamp area to make it easier. So I took the good work the gents did building the land bridge from our safe island to swamp and expanded upon it...just a bit. I may or may not have built an elevated walkway into the heart of the swamp where nothing can get you, but you can get them!! Oh yes, this swampy super highway does indeed connect nicely to our first major stone/wood creation.

Designed by the famous Bearded Guru, The "Deep Stone Crypt House" was an abandon building, left by some unprepared Viking soul years ago. After the Beard saw the bones he knew what must be done to make this the ultimate work-from-home quarantine purchase. Approximately 6.7865% of the original structure remains, however he did leave a few walls for nostalgia. The weird angles of this one, along with being in the trees, proved to be a challenge but in the end the new owner will truly get a one-of-a-kind home. The lower level sports a fine patio overlooking the majestic swamp along with a sunken crypt for you to explore. Currently two floors with internal smelting on the lower level and a cozy sleeping quarters upstairs. Some appliances included, level 3 forge to tippy tap away and a bare bones workbench makes this new-to-market fresh while allowing for your personal touches. Don't take our word for it, come see yourself by taking the Swamp Portal on the left hand side of mead hall.

@RenFengge he had to have eye surgery because he has to much extra skin around his eye lids and they were rolling back and his eyelashes were stabbing his eyes causing small cuts on his eyes leading to alcers in his eyes so to correct it he basically had plastic surgery and had the extra skin removed around his eyelids and now instead of rolling in they roll out like there suppose to. He goes gets his stitches out in about 10 days. That was Tuesday when he had surgery.

TurboR56Mini reacted to RenFengge in EA giving studios freedom with Game development
If D2 is in good game development, it's because it's a cash cow. It because they were given what they needed to fix their initial Destiny and become what it is today. But, being successful in that sense is because a cheetah was asked to run and not do something it couldn't naturally do.

I think a lot of fun in multiplayer games happens in spite of bad game development. For example, when @TurboR56Mini  and I played No Man's Sky with a few people, just getting an update or a patch was intriguing because of various things breaking or completely changing. Every patch and update was like getting a new game. It was always a question of "What's broken today? What's fixed now that we couldn't previously do because it was broken?"

I'll cite Square Enix on actual good game development, but the culture there is vastly different. We only recently talk about that "crunch" time in gaming studios, but that's like embedded in anime production and game production for them. However, they don't necessarily abandon games because they give up either. Again, FFXIV was a redo, and congrats on them for making good on that.

Admitting they were wrong in a puff piece was an orchestrated move pushed by their PR, most likely. I've been on the side of companies with their C-suite needing to do this BS. I've seen the arguments that PR and Marketing make to the C-suite to do these things. They put it out there to pacify the game audience. That's it. They expect people to forget in a week. If they follow through, I will be pleasantly surprised. If they don't, it's what was expected.

Them giving the studios they bought "more freedom" is vastly different than what they are used to. It's not what their Board is used to. It's not what their major investors are used to. Unless their Board is on the same page, it won't happen. And, Boards only care about profit. "More freedom" to studios is not an overnight thing. It's not even a "couple of months" thing. It's a culture change that will take time and the willingness to fight for it.

I love games, and the industry as a whole makes me sad. Sony is my bright spot in how they manage their studios. Look at Bend Studios and Guerrilla Games. Look at how they are being grown and guided vs what EA has done to studios they bought. Sony does it right. And, I look forward to anything they do for the gaming world. They aren't perfect, but they have always tried to be for the gamers.

Hopped on last night for about an hour with @TurboR56Mini  because I wanted to see what you guys did yesterday!

    😐

Thanks for unlocking the game to throw trolls and swamp people at me at home base!

    😐

Literally got up and went AFK for like 4 minutes, and @TurboR56Mini  starts yelling at me to come back because I'm being hit by a troll in my vegetable garden!

THEN, I get attacked by swamp people and skeletons.

I thought home was a safe place. 😭

All in all, I love the progress you guys made! So cool!

Well shit, the swamp will wreck you, I would say at least 2 people minimum to explore, 3 is better. I know @GazzaGarrattand @tronic44 (saw a few of Tron's graves kicking around!!) explored at least 2 sunken crypts, @RenFengge and I started a third. I extended the walkway to "land" in the swamp and started a tree house, since ya know, tree house.

I've also upgraded our forge at the Vault to level 7! We now have a stone cutter there too. Feel free to demo it then rebuild it for the crafting items. Since we beat the second boss or triggered it some other way, there are now raids that attack our bases. @RenFengge and I were at the home base and we attacked by swamp things in one encounter and a troll in another. This new mechanic for the server is....fun? There does not seem to be a safe place anymore so time to enhance our defenses and rethink our layouts at major bases like Vault and Home. We can build with stone now so maybe we do some demo on the OG structure at home and start building the FG Castle??? More than happy to start but I know many of you put some time on day 1 into that base. I don't want to start reconstructing it until we agree to make it a stone castle!!! Maybe we do a build event this week instead of a boss. I'm pretty sure there is no way in hell we will defeat the swamp boss this week. I'm not sure I want to, TBH, I'd rather have the group put some thought into building out the FG Home base and establishing a nice compound for new folks that may join. Thoughts? OOO we can have a long boat too as I saw it in my crafting menu 🙂

Hey @Tar-Eruntalion There is a process to fix that, we had downloaded the wrong files. Also, @RenFengge  is working a more complete guide for server access, but this will get you fixed and back up and running.
Go to "...\Steam\steamapps\common\Valheim" Rename the Valheim folder to "Valheim_old" Open the Steam desktop app and right click on Valheim on the Library tab  Click "Properties" Click "Local Files" Click "Verify integrity of game files..."This should redownload the files that we mistakenly altered by using the "plus" mod. This will recreate the "Valheim" folder in the first step. Click this link https://bit.ly/3brRyEj and download the .dll file  Navigate to "...\Steam\steamapps\common\Valheim\valheim_Data\Managed" Drag and drop this file into that directory Click the replace file option when prompted, then you're all set. The server will work again. Let me know if this does not work and we can get on and help get you up an running.
