Dr Diamond 407
my housemate says she uses one to people cant get her data...i have no idea what the fuck she is watching, downloading etc, but she doesnt watch films much, i rarely hear her playing music, so i can only assume she is just web browsing ( she is a bit werid, think she has genuine mental health issues, bit paranoid prehaps)questions :does using a tor browser in anyway slow down the internet connection ?if so , is there anyway to stop tor browsers being used on my connection ?considering Tor browsers are routinely used by people buying drugs, weapons, illegal porn etc, i am not too keen having an internet connection in my name being earmarked as accessing the web through a tor browseranswers on a postcard please Chookes said:I absoloutely prefer it this way. Diddums 4,346
If she's paranoid she probably isn't using her browser as a relay, in which case you've got nothing to worry about. If she's stupid, she might be unknowingly, but I doubt it. I could run a billion TOR clients and still play a hundred different game with no lag. This isn't her, it's your shitty connection. What router have you got? And what's the exact problem? Disconnects? Lag? Slow? What's your browsing like, is that also slow or just gaming? Run a speedtest.net a few times for me. Different times of day, different days, etc etc. Note how many people are using the connection at the time. Also run a pingest.net and let me know what your jitter and packet loss is. Run this one too: http://freeola.com/line-test/ BO7H B4RRELS 1 Link to comment https://forevergaming.co.uk/forum/forums/topic/914-tor-browsers/#findComment-24304 Share on other sites

Run this one too: http://freeola.com/line-test/ orange/ee shitty brightbox 12 + devices (multiple laptops, ipads, phones etc). generally it is only me actively using the internet via LAN, but these are connected more often than not ping generally between 20ms (best) and 1000ms...obviously when everyone is using it it drops loads. what i dont get is when its only me connected (by me turning off the wireless), i still get a 100ms ping.normally my ping is 50-100ms with a jitter of anything up to 50ms. example right now : browsing drops to a complete halt occasionally. i have no idea which housemates are responsible or what they are doing, but when i turn the wireless off, its just me on lan and the connection is "okay". http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3275789374 for what its worth, my phone tells me constantly that the wireless is unstable, which pretty much sums up what its like. one day okay, next day fucking awful. cant browse, cant play games, cant even open the router login etc Chookes said:I absoloutely prefer it this way. Diddums 4,346
So with a wired connection it's still shit? Or is that more reliable? Link to comment https://forevergaming.co.uk/forum/forums/topic/914-tor-browsers/#findComment-24328 Share on other sites
Dr Diamond 407
wired connection is manageable...well, im used to having a 100ms ping as manageable, so having a 40ms ping is amazing...but the moment everyone else connects to the router, everything grinds to a halt, even if they arent doing anything.sometimes i also plug my lan cable into my laptop when teh wireless is unuseable, and even that wont help. its as if my housemates are grinding the connection so bad through the wireless that its fucking the wired connection more than youd imagine it should Chookes said:I absoloutely prefer it this way.
