On rewatch, I thought this was a really hard slog. The performances from Walberg and Bale were very good but the depths of despair were very deep!

I seriously loved watching it again. Bale is actually superb, even better when you can remember how he played other roles that are just so different such as Batman. I also think this is one of, if not the best film that Mark Wahlberg has been in. I thought it was funny whilst sad how Bale tries to get away from his Mum the same way both times out of the window onto the trash. I didn't expect them to bond again near the end too.

 

Best bit for me was when Mark's other half takes in his sisters and batters the crap out of a few 😂

I’d agree about the best film Wahlberg has been in, it was a break in his comedy or action films and something I’d like to see him do more often.

 

It’s a brilliant film overall though, I know it’s based on a true story but they keep the real life in by not only focusing on the good and glossing over the depression and despair that Dicky goes through.  It isn’t an easy watch at times but it’s well worth watching.
