Does anyone have any experience restoring arcade machines. I'd love a cab in my garage. Ideally I'd like a Sega rally upright, but I also like the idea of a mame unit with multiple roms. Has anyone done anything similar?

Not me but I'd love a MAME box (don't tell Lee, he'll murder a dolphin). There are loads of guides and info all over the net and MAME can run on a raspberry Pi.

I have helped one of my best friends in the world repair and rebuild multiple pins and cabinets.

He basically tells me what to do and I do it, but he does all the brain work. If you want I can put you in contact with him and his facebook group

You better erase that, he gave me shit for wanting to use raspberry pi.

I do not understand the fascination with Raspberry Pi.

The only cool thing I have seen done with it so far is a mirror display that had a clock and weather listing.

I have a pc I can use, but finding roms looks like a great way to get a virus

I don't believe I have ever gotten a virus from a Rom site.

Just don't be dumb in your clicking and you will be fine.

Every SNES game in a tiny little box to use on your TV was my drive. Or hobby carpenters who want to make their own arcade cabinets.

$$$$$$

For $50 ($35 for the Pi itself and $15 for the memory card and whatever) you have an emulator for all the old games you want.

There's a dedicated OS for Pi with everything you need.

Also, they fit in anything. I bumped in to a project somewhere where a guy had installed one inside something like this. I may get a Pi to tinker around with. I have a thing for cheap, small tech.

No, I mean specifically using Raspberry Pi (RP) as your OS/

Most every MAME cab I have worked on was using Windows XP or a Linux distro on the back end.

A few months back folks around here started trying to use RP for everything, and it died really fast as it is a PITA to get to work.

Meanwhile I am just sitting here with Windows 7, and about 20 GB of Roms streaming to my TV, had it all up and running in about 30 minutes.

You guys are dead to me.
