One of the best games of all time imo, I remember getting the Orange box, first on Xbox 360, then on Origin.

I recently installed HL2 on Steam as they updated the graphics and it's just waiting for me to need a break from Stalker.

I can't do RTX with my 1080ti but I'm sure this will be excellent.

I kind of have mixed feelings about this so far. At times the game looks great but the performance demands are needlessly insane. They've done a good job with improving the assets and a part of me wishes they left it at just that because the ray tracing is draining. The Nvidia slop of DLSS and Frame Gen helps with performance but degrades the image significantly and I wish developers would stop bailing themselves out with this shite. Not only is it an attempt at covering up poor optimisation but it cons the user into thinking they are running a game better than they are whilst unwittingly suffering from a poorer quality experience - like putting a band aid on a deep cut and pretending everything is fine.

Developers need to operate within their means and this game is a prime example of them not. They've gone for RTX overkill and hoped that the Nvidia extras can cover this up. I don't know if Source is a good engine for ray tracing - Portal RTX was brutally demanding too but this isn't how things should be done. Doom Eternal is a prime example of how it should be.

The real way to play half life 2 again is in VR.  Played the whole thing, and it was amazing.  Every part of it seemed like it was made with VR in mind.
