Invitation Quest
This is possibly the most straight forward step to get Imperials as its the trigger to obtaining the chalice and allowing you to start upgrading the chalice. To start it off you most go to Benedict (Sweeper Bot) in the Annex and pick up the quest and then immediately go to Ikora. After those straightforward tasks follow the remaining steps to get the quest done and pick up 1000 Imperials along the way to complete the quest.
Weekly Calus Bounties
Werner 99-40 and Benedict 99-40 will have four weekly Calus bounties available that offer a powerful reward, a rune for the Chalice of Opulence, and a puny purse of Imperials (150). Complete these every week (and on each character you have) for an additional 150 Imperials.
Nessus Gold Barge Chests
On board the new Gold Barge in Nessus, there are 15 chests that can be opened for 5,000 Glimmer and will reward 150 Imperials with some runes as a bonus. Therefore you need a total of 75k Glimmer to open all of the chests.
Bearing this in mind you might want to save up your Glimmer for the chests or wait until The Spider (the Tangled Shore vendor) is selling Glimmer in exchange for Legendary Shards to easily get your Glimmer back up to over 75k.
If you are struggling to find them they are at the back of the barge at the top. It's also a place where Xur now is present on certain weeks.
Please note chests can be opened once per week. However, the current reset day is actually Sunday rather than Tuesday. Bungie have indicated this may be fixed to a Tuesday in one of their future patches.
Power and Efficiency 2 Chalice Upgrade
To start getting some Imperials to drop as you do the usual activities, you need to unlock Power and Efficiency 2 Upgrade.
The description on it states:
Grants an additional weekly powerful reward from the final chest in the Menagerie. Playlist activities may now rarely award Imperials.
Therefore, don't forget to concentrate on doing your weekly Strikes, Crucible and Gambit. Whilst working towards the Powerful Gear you can drop, you have the chance to drop between 100-500 imperials after activity completion.
Wealth of the Emporer Buff Consumable
Once you've unlocked Power and Efficiency 2 on your chalice, Werner 99-40 on the Gold Barge will allow to purchase a Buff consumable called Wealth of the Emporer. You can buy up to 3 of these per week.
The description on the Buff reads:
Significantly increases the chances of earning Imperials from Strikes, Gambit and the Crucible. Greatly increases the chances of earning Imperials in the Menagerie. Effects last until Imperials are earned.
Once purchased you should apply one to your character and you will then see the buff on the character screen, displayed by a small green triangle like other buffs and effects that are active on your Guardian.
All you then need to do is play and eventually the game will give you 500 imperials once you complete any of the above activities. Another incentive to keep on running the Menagerie.
Menagerie Triumphs
As you complete the above activities, you should 'cash in' your triumphs on the Trimphs tab. There are a ton of easy ones to get, usually for completing things for the first time, such as:
- Each specific type of weekly bounty and linked treasure map
- First Menagerie completion
- Each Menagerie boss defeated for the first time
Then there's simple ones for us all to help each other with, such as:
- Light all lamps as part of the first part (Lamplighting) with everyone only lighting one lamp each
- Get all 6 Guardians around the Gauntlet run without dying on any rotation
These bad boys actually give the most of all - 500 imperials each. This without a doubt is why you should do the steps above to get even more Imperials.
