Dax keeps on askin for some of these mods he watches on YouTube channels but I haven't a clue where to start. Can anyone offer some basic tips about mods and how to install them?

Afternoon all, Before anyone gets the wrong impression I'm not asking for more mods on the server. I'm happy with that as it is. Having been reading up on stuff it lead in to the all machines and things you can build with guides mentioning stuff from other mods which obviously we can't use. Some of these look like they could be fun to try out but would obviously need to be done in singleplayer. Can we add additional mods to the this build or do the mod lists have to match to connect to the server? Alternatively, I can see having a completely different version would be best to avoid any possible mod conflict. This is a long way off as I still have done so little on the server but I was thinking about it so thought I'd ask.

I haven't touched the surface on this subject so it would be good to know your thoughts on mods and which ones are the best with which weapons. I can see from the skills tree that there is a mod to amend mods along the way but haven't got to it yet, so it's good to know if I'm locking in a mod, what should or shouldn't I do?

Bethesda have tweeted today: We’re working w/ Sony on Fallout 4 Mod support for PS4. The process is still under evaluation. As soon as we learn more, we will share news. They've had some issues clearly with the size of mods and I think this is a political statement more than any progress to state they are still committed to their original promise on ps4. I'm not sure that there is much crying out for mods still on console as there is on PC but suffice to say I think this is clearly showing that on console it has a bit to go until mods can be a fully fledged addition to games.

So a couple of new modpacks for Feed the Beast have come out for 1.6. Does anybody plan on playing them? The OTC server I play on will be updating to the new Direwolf20 pack. I just recently got into Feed the Beast. We have been playing with the Unleashed pack and it took me a while to get used to everything, but once I did, I don't think i'll ever go back to vanilla.

So now that mods are handled in just the mods folder, how do they work? I've got some updated mods that I want to install but just placing the rar file into the mods folder doesn't work. Is there something else I need to be doing? Any help is greatly welcomed.
