Nintendo has announced that Wii U production will soon come to an end “in the near future for the Japanese domestic market,” adding that North American retail partners have already received their final stock allocation.

It sees the Wii U end on a hapless whimper, and sees it set to be remembered as the company’s worst-selling home console.

“We can confirm that as of today, all Wii U hardware that will be made available in the North American market for this fiscal year has already been shipped to our retail partners,” Nintendo of America shared in a statement. “We encourage anyone who wants Wii U to communicate with their preferred retail outlet to monitor availability.

“As recently posted by Nintendo on the Wii U website in Japan, Wii U production will end in the near future for the Japanese domestic market,” they added. “We have nothing to announce in terms of exact timing.”

The company will now continue to work hard toward making Nintendo Switch a success, which we will next learn about at the Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017

Nintendo Switch will launch worldwide in March 2017.

It's a shame but it's clearly for the best to move and concentrate on the NX. I hope the gimmick will come with great games though.
