Sennex 1,903
So, I have a 90gb database I need to delete, the problem is that it hangs Windows 7 when I delete it. Either in the Dos, SQL, or Win Explorer. For the drive this is on, I have Archiving, and Indexing turned off There are no backup services running. The drive itself is a 500gb 7200rpm Western Digital HD. Not really sure why this thing is hanging on me. I would format the drive if I could, but I have data on there I can't just migrate. I have never seen something like this before, so am at a loss. Any ideas? Luke 23:34 'And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they don't think it be like it is, but it do." cyberninja2601 1,106
Did you try to delete in the command line? What about doing it in safe mode? Sennex 1,903
I did do the cmd line, and it hung as well. Did not try safe mode yet. cyberninja2601 1,106
What it sounds like to me is like one of the files is mounted on something and causing problems. Can you just rename the database or files then delete? a 90G database should not be too large to do anything from within win7 Link to comment https://forevergaming.co.uk/forum/forums/topic/3416-win-7-large-file-deletion/#findComment-78105 Share on other sites
Sennex 1,903
Yea, this was my thought as well. I should have been able to drop the tables, and then remove the database. I am thinking there are bad sectors on the HD platters here. Going to just stop for now. Migrate the data elsewhere, and then just shred the drive Luke 23:34 'And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they don't think it be like it is, but it do." Diddums 4,346
Can't you hook it up to another system and use that OS? Or make a Linux USB and boot off that.
