Lara Croft is definitely iconic especially of the era - she's basically the Spice Girls of videogames. Back in the mid-90's it was all cartoony characters but she represented some authenticity and she appealed to males for obvious reasons😎
How big are the screenshots? I increased the cap to 10MB per post a while back so should be enough?
Pictures stored on FG are the biggest source of cost increase on our host bills (like most other websites) so you can probably understand why theres a size cap on it - I wish there was an inbuilt system like whatsapp that makes the pictures absolutely tiny on memory (less than half a MB most times) but as we don't have huge traffic of constant photos its not too bad tbh.
Mine come from Steam Akami where no upload is required so I hope mine aren't responsible for any high bills😎
There’s a clip online from a former Blizzard developer, I can’t remember what game he was referencing but it was something along the lines of them spending months and months of time, and millions and millions of dollars developing a substantial piece of DLC content (similar to the likes of the upcoming Elden Ring DLC), but when they released it, it made significantly less money than a single simple cosmetic microstransatcion did on World of Warcraft.
That's exactly the problem with the industry - they are more concerned about money than delivering a piece of content they can be proud of. Publishers have them over a barrel - why produce expansive DLC when you can sell a skin that makes one hundred times as much. Precisely why microtransactions have ruined ethics and standards in games - sure they seem an innocent addition but actually they have a devastating wider effect overall.
Thankfully there are still a few developers and publishers out there who take pride in their products rather than using them as annual cash cows to keep the money men happy.
It's pure greed and nothing else and this is reflected in publishers balance sheets. A game like Dragon's Dogshit 2 does not need any microtransactions especially ones where users have to pay £1.99 to create a new character or start a new game. If they deleted the save file locally then they got banned by Denuvo for 'system tampering'. This is an utterly despicable practice. Games like COD and FIFA also have pay to win elements which are reflected in longstanding concept patents in place to drive people to buying the latest bundles and then shadow-nerfing them before a new one is released to move users to the next.
Videogame prices have gone up and the quality has gone down. Some games are even built around post-launch monetisation which is why they release in such a shit show. The likes of Activision and EA don't need to recoup costs when they surpass their development costs within a week and then go on to post revenues in the billions per quarter alone. EA just posted a $5.8bn profit for 2023 and most of that was down to microtransactions.
Baldurs Gate 3 doesn't have microtransactions and it isn't a pile of broken diarrhoea either - one of the most successful games this century. Multi-billionaires Capcom did not need to sink this low especially when they have worked so hard to become re-established in the last 7years.
Death or Dishonor is a new Country Pack for Hearts of Iron IV, and expands upon players’ ability to experience history’s greatest conflict from any point of view.
Join the Dominions as they step up to the challenge of defending the motherland for King and Country in Together for Victory, the first major expansion for Hearts of Iron IV, the critically acclaimed strategy...
Dishonored is another one that is commonly overlooked probably because most people play in low chaos or just don't make the most of the powers on offer. I certainly am nowhere near good or creative enough to pull off half the stuff in this video but it just goes to show what can be done if you go beneath the surface and really utilise everything on offer.
Every so often I stumble upon, or revisit a game which is just the equivalent of crack in terms of highly enjoyable and pulsating combat. These games just have that extra something which really stands out and where the combat shines mechanically and even visually. Off the top of my head, I'd say 3 games which really stand out are:-
Metal Gear Rising - fast paced, responsive, smooth and incredibly satisfying melee-based combat.
F.E.A.R - inspired by Max Payne's bullet time feature but with additional immersion thanks to the first person perspective.
Max Payne 3 - bullet time never gets old plus the attention to detail and environmental effects look spectacular.
There's probably loads more that I've forgotten about but what are your standout games that just have that little bit more in terms of the combat?
Welcome to the zombie apocalypse experience of a lifetime – more beautiful than ever. Caught in an epic zombie outbreak on the tropical island of Banoi, your only thought is: Survive!
I've heard it's only Silent Hill by name and everything else is pretty lame. Pity because the PT demo we had a decade or so ago was epic! Silent Hill 2 remake has also raised some surprise concerns that the developers (who are not very popular for numerous reasons) have missed the point and are trying to turn it into Resident Evil.
If this happens then it’ll be the final nail in the coffin for Microsoft surely in competition terms? It would destroy the entire point of owning an Xbox and the game pass on its own is just not sustainable or attractive enough plus the machines are technically inferior. The fact this has even been considered is just insane and it will kill any future credibility they have with ‘exclusives’. They were already desperate enough as it is with such few options. Makes you wonder if they will abandon consoles in the future and just do streaming as previously suggested. This situation is very similar to the Sega saga. The Bethesda acquisition has been a disaster so far and the Activision takeover isn’t going to change anything other than where the profits are diverted. Microsoft are incredibly boxed in right now and running out of options.

Probably Deus Ex. The game essentially predicted the future.
