A game that needs no introduction. A mix between Final Fight and Double Dragon (yes I admit it is, even though I don't like to) with cutting edge graphics at the time.
A very basic model of a RPG game with linear 2D levels left to right worked magically as Axel (I was only him) could create multiple combos through the 3 buttons available. Released in 1991, it was cutting edge for its time and great storyline to start with too. Main charcters were three young former police officers (Axel, Blaze, and Adam) and Mr. X, the evil mastermind. It was also the only game in the series to feature a special attack that defeats all non-boss enemies on screen - who could forget the police car and rocket launcher.
The three playable characters in the game:
Adam Hunter possesses high power and jump ability, but slow movement.
Axel Stone is high-powered and moves quickly, but has poor jump ability.
Blaze Fielding moves faster than the others and has good jump ability, but is the weakest character.
There was 8 levels, I only ever got to the last level once and got decimated by Mr. X. You could also pick up knives, bottles and pipes. Super addictive game that holds it's replayability value even to this day.
