J4MES OX4D 10,054
What a terrible thing this was and some of the witness accounts are absolutely shocking. Eight people between 14 and 27 confirmed dead with over 25 still in hospital and hundreds injured. Although it's too early to say what caused the crush, there was a definite influx of people who broke in to the venue during the day and through the evening. There did seem to be some segregation at play though so it likely wasn't just a matter of everyone who sneaked in at the back suddenly caused a surge, but that has to be a factor which shouldn't have happened regardless. The lack of security in place for an event of this magnitude was shocking and totally inadequate - there should have been multiple perimeters/checkpoints with a substantial amount of staff on duty and clearly visible. There didn't seem to be any presence there aside from a few horses and some security dressed in black. Concert should have been postponed after this breach but money was obviously the flavour of the day. 50,000 at a venue that small was already high-risk. As the event kicked off, clearly there was a number of people in difficulty but Travis Scott continued to play on even with a dead body being paraded to the front of the stage. He did halt a couple of times but then proceeded and people at the back didn't have a clue what was going on at the front it seems which caused more surges. Only when people began to throw stuff and desperately get the attention of a camera man did things finally become more of an emergency but Travis once again played on. When ambulances started pulling in, fans jumped on them and were dancing on the roof as paramedics struggled to reach people in need. As per usual, Travis continued to perform. His girlfriend Kylie Jenner started videoing the scenes and in typical tasteless fashion, she uploaded it to Instagram. Travis still going strong with his song. Only when tens of ambulances were on the scene and the front section in complete visible distress did the organisers finally pull the plug. Travis's buddy Drake starts uploading to social media like nothing has happened, praising the show. Disgraceful. I can't imagine how terrifying it was for anyone involved and this is once again another disaster from this event who saw 3 people killed previous. Terrible organisation and despicable ethics from Scott himself who is now playing the cards used to distance themselves from lawsuits. His girlfriend has made a throwaway statement which was probably written by her PR team in about 20 seconds. Such an avoidable tragedy and events like these need some reform to prevent things like this from happening. The disregard some people showed for others when breaking in was simply disgusting and even a security guard was stabbed with a needle and rendered unconscious. People dancing on ambulances and preventing people literally yards away getting treatment is just horrifying. Travis Scott and his team have a lot to answer for as does the wild animals who caused all that destruction and likely precipitated all the issues in the evening. Sounds friggin horrible though, stuff like this is one of the reason I avoid large crowds these days.
