TigerBurge 2,375
One billion dollars (in my best Dr. Evil voice) in sales on day one. Battlefield who? Activision today announced that Ghosts has earned a record $1B (to retail) in one day. Call of Duty: Ghosts is Gamestop’s Most-Preordered Next Gen Title Call of Duty: Ghosts Takes over the #1 Spot on Xbox Live Call of Duty: Ghosts Sets New High Watermark for Average Player Session Length SANTA MONICA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI), announced today that the company sold more than $1 billion of Call of Duty®: Ghosts into retail stores worldwide as of day one. “Call of Duty is by far the largest console franchise of this generation,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. “More people have played Call of Duty this year than ever before, logging four billion hours of gameplay. And in the last 12 months, Call of Duty®: Black Ops II, including its digital content, generated more revenues than any other console game ever has in a single year. Although it is too early to assess sell-through for Call of Duty: Ghosts, it’s launching at a time when the franchise has never been more popular.” Millions of people are already playing Call of Duty: Ghosts online. Since its release yesterday, Call of Duty: Ghosts has moved to the #1 spot as the most played game on Xbox Live, according to Microsoft. Additionally, Activision confirmed that on the Xbox 360 videogames and entertainment system from Microsoft, average player sessions for Ghosts have been longer than either Black Ops II or Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3, during the same time period. Call of Duty: Ghosts launched at 15,000 midnight openings around the world. Fans around the world shared their excitement in social media, with Call of Duty-related terms trending an astounding 20 times globally on Twitter in the last 24 hours. “Ghosts is an amazing game which ushers in the next generation of Call of Duty. The team at Infinity Ward has delivered yet another epic thrill ride in the campaign, and what I think is our best multiplayer game yet,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “This is the must have launch title for the next generation of consoles, and we expect Call of Duty: Ghosts to be the most successful launch title for the Xbox One and PS4 by a wide margin. In fact, according to GameStop, Call of Duty: Ghosts is their most pre-reserved next gen title.” http://www.charlieintel.com/2013/11/06/call-of-duty-ghosts-earns-1b-in-one-day/ BO7H B4RRELS 1 Link to comment https://forevergaming.co.uk/forum/forums/topic/581-ghosts-day-one-sales/ Share on other sites
OnceAgainYoungFitzpatrick 3
Speaking of Battlefield, just found this article. Apparently EA rushed BF4 to beat Ghosts. Which I don't really understand. Why does it matter if you release your game two weeks before? That isn't going to affect sales really. Because of that decision, there has been plenty of problems in BF4. http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/11/ea-reportedly-rushed-battlefield-4-to-beat-call-of-duty-ghosts-launch/ Link to comment https://forevergaming.co.uk/forum/forums/topic/581-ghosts-day-one-sales/#findComment-15894 Share on other sites

Because of that decision, there has been plenty of problems in BF4. They will never beat CoD. If they were smart they wouldn't release it a week before. They should do it late spring/early summer when people get tired of CoD. Halo tried if last year and didn't work either. J4MES OX4D 10,035
If EA think they can topple Call of Duty then they are pretty damn deluded! I agree with TigerBurge that they should release it in a window that is not riddled with competition. The late spring/early summer is usually a quiet time for games anyway with more focus on trade shows and the Christmas launches. EA will never win and even with a fully functional and perfectly working game; they will still fall short by a country mile in my opinion. I hate what EA have done to their FPS franchises; they are all rushed, broken and in Medal of Honor's case; soulless. The games are non-comparable though albeit being in the same genre I feel and Call of Duty is more user friendly and enjoyable rather than being more vast and 'realistic'. If EA want to keep self-competing, they are wasting their time as nothing will get close that they can offer. cyberninja2601 1,106
Not really, Still, I think it was somewhat disingenuous for Activision to blast out misleading headlines touting “ $1B in sales” when the number of games shipped is not in any way a meaningful comparison to the number of games sold http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2013/11/08/activision-admits-call-of-duty-ghosts-didnt-outsell-black-ops-2-at-launch/?partner=yahootix The did beat BF4 but they 1B they are claiming sold to retail not end customers. L_C_Scipio 395
Day one sales really don't mean anything. All they do is show how good a company is at hyping up their game.
