Spent a few days up at the cabin enjoying some time on the river chasing pike & bass with the fly rod. Quite a bit of action on Saturday with the warmer temps it seems the pike & bass are active early this year. Nothing huge but a good deal of action and some nice fighting size fish to hand always makes for a great day. Gonna be a great summer on the river from the looks of it.

Cool pictures. When does bass become in season where you are? I think you said you catch and release anyways, but this seems rather early in the season. Bass has always been my favourite to catch

It's usually around the 2nd week of July around here.

Last weekend was pike and pickerel for us

Wrap that in some rice and seaweed and I would eat it!

Awesome pics man, I would have loved to have gone fishing this weekend.

Luke 23:34
'And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they don't think it be like it is, but it do."

Pike are supposed to be really tasty. I've never tried it myself though. Love the taste of some good fish but too many bones to pike for my liking.

If you filet them, they are great. My grand mother also new how to prepare the smaller ones.

when it comes to eating the fish Walley is number one for me then lake trout.

Is the water there clean enough to keep and eat the fish?

We use to like to go to algonquin park. You should try it if you ever get a chance. It's quite pristine. Lots of rules to protect the park

Oh yeah super clean pristine water there on the Au Sable. No mercury issue or anything to worry about. I use to keep and eat fish out of there all the time. I just like to C&R these days though that's the only reason I don't keep them now. Never tried filleting pike. I use to fillet bass and panfish/walleye all the time but never tried filleting a pike. Always though the Y-bones would be to hard to fillet them. Might have to keep one and try it this year and see.

Lovely pictures again dude, maybe we should should do some FG fishing trips and see which side of the pond can catch the best fish.

Fortunately i've got myself one of these....
