My laptop is very outdated and has a lot of problems so I've decided to purchase a new one.

I am not able to spend big bucks and it will primarily be for uni (hence why I'm getting a laptop over a PC). However, I also want to be able to play some games on it (Dota 2, LoL). It doesn't have to max out the settings but as long as it will run the games smoothly.

If you have any suggestions and/or know of good options it would be appreciated.

You pretty much have the same game demands as me, basically Blizzard games and mobas. I'm on mobile right now but I'll edit this post and make some suggestions.

i7 7700k, 16GB RAM, GEFORCE 1080, 240GB SSHD, 2TB SSD

Acer Aspire V3-574G

Decent CPU, dedicated graphics, eight gigglybites, 1080p screen, good build quality and Acer's legendary warranty / after sales service.

In real money it's £570 at the moment which is a shade under $1200NZD. Anything cheaper than that will be a MASSIVE downgrade, you'll probably lose the dedicated graphics for a start. I don't know if you have deal sites like Hotukdeals or cashback sites like Topcashback over there but it's worth looking around. Also look for places where you can trade in an old laptop, they usually knock a bit off the price if you give them a used junker, if you don't have one, find a used one for cheap and use it to benefit from the trade in.

I don't know what NZ is like for tech but in South Africa you pay out your arse for it as it takes a million liters more fuel to get it there in the first place.

Lemme know if this isn't suitable and I'll find something else.

An i7 is a waste for gaming, especially for what he wants it for unless he plans to also be streaming. There is a marginal difference between the i5 and i7.

The one I posted is an i5 (double check the names, one letter or number out can be a completely different laptop).

Ah shit that would explain it. Google brought me to an i7 version priced at 900, stupid mobile.

Cheers for that, I'll give it a check, I am willing to spend up to around $1500 if there will be a big difference in quality.

But yeah tech is expensive in NZ for the same reasons. For a while the average game cost $120 and CoD was like $139. Thankfully they're usually about $90 now [emoji28]

I've got an old laptop Toshiba laptop I can trade in so I'll try do that.

I wouldn't touch Asus ROG stuff with a barge pole again. I bought the ROG Swift when it came out, it had backlight bleed, loads of dead pixels and a wonky stand. The way Asus saw it I paid and that was that. Luckily we're covered by law here so I just sent it back to the supplier and got my cash back. Their service was enough to put me off for life (this is also a common trend with Asus, sadly I wasn't a one off).

Don't get me wrong, it was an absolute beast of a monitor and I did try everything to get it right but their lack of interest just shut that door for me for life. Maybe Murica is different, dunno.

One thing not to forget - ergonomics. I bought my wife a nice Lenovo a few years back and I hate that thing. I didn't realize how bad the keyboard was. Some of the keys (delete, insert, backspace, backslash....hell even up,down, left, right) are smaller than I'm used to or are in different spots on the keyboard. It also takes a lot more effort to type on than normal keyboards for whatever reason. It's just not comfortable to work with

Don't make that mistake.

I can't seem to find that model of Acer for sale anywhere online. Have you got any trustworthy sites that do international shipping or would it be best for me to buy it in store?

I got sidetracked with my purchasing of a laptop because I bought a car and needed to save up again. But I am back on the market for a good laptop that will be good for uni but also be able to play games such as LoL and DoTa - doesn't need to have good graphics; just as long as it is playable and smooth!

I was looking at I believe the the Acer Aspire E5-551G-T0Q9 - anyone have any thoughts on this or recommendations for others? Budget is around $1500-2000 NZD
