BO7H B4RRELS 2,458
So my Nat Type is 2, which is Moderate. I want to change it to open. I'm trying to do this: http://www.playstationing.com/ps4/how-to-change-your-nat-type-on-ps4-and-ps3/839 However, my IP address isn't just a basic thing like: 192.168.1.1 - Instead, it's some crazy combination of fe80: 2ac : 0ff : fe3f or some crazy shit like that. WTF? It started w/ me getting the BANJO error code in Destiny. Trying to sort this out. Not sure if it's related or not, but I can't get on League of Legends either. We just got a new router a week or two ago. Link to comment https://forevergaming.co.uk/forum/forums/topic/2190-nat-type/ Share on other sites

We just got a new router a week or two ago. You listed a MAC address, not an IP address If you are seeing a MAC address as your IP address, then something got fucked. I can't think of any way at all that a system would list a MAC address as an IP address. Mac Addresses are basically social security numbers; IP addresses are basically housing addresses. One can be used to filter the other, but not vice versa. Regardless, you need to provide more information What router? What firmware? What settings did you use to set it up? Luke 23:34 'And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they don't think it be like it is, but it do." Sennex 2,009
Why are you port forwarding? I doubt you have enough devices to warrant it. I know you aren't running a server. BO7H B4RRELS 2,458
I don't know... just trying to figure out why my NAT type if fucked up on PS4. Thought I needed to port forward. I have a Arris TG862G router. If I don't need to do this... great. But, I don't know why I have a moderate nat type all of a sudden. BO7H B4RRELS 2,458
Although it does say that a Moderate Nat Type should be fine. But, the banjo error on destiny made me think it's not fine. I don't know what I'm doing. Sennex 2,009
yea, so stop what you are doing. Reset everything back to normal and then tell me what happens. (I literally mean reset everything. Hold your reset buttons, or power buttons or whatever in and start over at square one) Luke 23:34 'And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they don't think it be like it is, but it do." BO7H B4RRELS 2,458
Bart, I sent you a PM w/ a screen shot. I need to go pick my daughter up from school in about 10 minutes. It only takes 10 or 15 minutes to pick her up and get back home. Basically what happened was: I tried to play Destiny and got the "banjo" error. Looked up banjo error and it said it could be a nat type issue (according to bungie), they said I might need to port forward. Looked up how to port forward. Thought this looks easy to fuck up, so I posted here. No idea how my IP address became a MAC address, if that is indeed happening. But, I sent you a PM w/ a screen shot, so maybe it will make more sense. Sennex 2,009
cmd , ipconfig, then which address is my IP address? There's IPv6, default gateway, submask, IPv4, etc. IPv# = IP Address, the v stands for version. No one uses IPv6 yet, so focus on IPv4 Default gateway is not an IP address, it is a gateway, think of it being your driveway to get onto the highway Submask is not an IP Address, if you lived in an apartment, then it would be your apartment number. Sennex 2,009
Who is your ISP?I ask as I am noticing a trend in Banjo Error posts. All are either Comcast or subsidiaries of Comcast around the Great Lakes region (Michigan, Illinois, Indiana) In your network config for both your router and PS4, set your DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. These are the Google DNS servers, they update roughly every hour, I noticed a large majority of my problems in all gaming ceased when I did this. Port Forwarding can help in large IP traffic networks. I have port forwarding set up in my house; but I also have 15+ devices on the network. This is not counting Kindles or phones or other devices that get off/ on the network at random times. Most residential problems that are "solved" by port forwarding are actual problems caused by the ISP trying to traffic shape areas to relieve problems of slow networks. What is your upload/download and ping rate during the times you are having issues?http://www.speedtest.net/to find out Luke 23:34 'And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they don't think it be like it is, but it do." BO7H B4RRELS 2,458
Right now my speed test was: Ping - 32 ms Down - 29.99 Up - 6.01 Link to comment https://forevergaming.co.uk/forum/forums/topic/2190-nat-type/#findComment-53281 Share on other sites
Sennex 2,009
Call them and bitch Start keeping a speedtest log for every day. If you notice an issue, then run an immediate speedtest When they tell you that you have to hook up PC directly to the modem to get better speeds, tell them you want to talk to someone in teir 2 or 3 Make them send someone out as you are not getting what you paid for. Mention that you are keeping a daily log to see what your speeds are. Basically just be a dick to them. They want your money but could give a fuck about your service. Luke 23:34 'And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they don't think it be like it is, but it do." Sennex 2,009
Right now my speed test was: Ping - 32 ms Down - 29.99 Up - 6.01 Thats actually pretty decent. Its not 100% indicative of not having a problem though. Pings come across port 80, port 80 is never blocked unless you want to just totally dick over the internet. When you talk to Tech support at Comcast, ask them to check the ports that Bungie mentions in their port forwarding guide. Hell, if you are lucky you will get someone that plays Destiny on the phone (This happened to me with WoW and CoD when I had issues with Mediacom) They will most likely blame the problem on your end, but regardless, they should send someone out to look at your lines, especially if you are in an Apartment. Tell them you want a new Modem, not router, most Comcast modems are Scientific Atlantic, or Motorola, models from 2002. They are seriously out of date. When I was in Chicago, I bought my own and was able to get better than advertised bandwidth at the time. Luke 23:34 'And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they don't think it be like it is, but it do." Sennex 2,009
If you go to buy your own Modem, there are several on the market currently that are amazing. That's what I was told anyway. They said the Arris TG862G is a modem/router combo. I don't have a separate modem and router anymore, just the one device. We just got this from Comcast about a week ago because our other modem was absolute trash. It was reaaaaaly old and shit. I'll definitely call them later today though. I can't use my phone right now. My screen is fucked up again. Just got it fixed two weeks ago, and now it's fucked up again. The first time was because I dropped it. This time, I have no idea. The screen is all fucked up looking. The guy at the mall said it had a tiny crack in it. He was supposed to call me back yesterday to let me know if it's still under warranty. He didn't call back. I can't go to the mall today because my son has now puked 6 times. What a day. Thanks again for your help. I'll call them when my wife gets home so I can use her phone. BO7H B4RRELS 2,458
So I went back to speedtest.net and noticed that it's starting from NJ instead of Indiana. WTF? This is because it shows your IP address as being from there. My home IP shows me as being from Queen Victoria Bay in Canada. If you do a Geo-Loc on an IP you should be able to get a history of everywhere that IP address has been used, its pretty funny when you start seeing your IP address popping in other countries. I can explain why if you really want to know. Luke 23:34 'And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they don't think it be like it is, but it do."
