Question for you guys that are really into tech/electronic equipment maybe a bit more than I. Today a buddy came over for coffee and we were watching some TV on my big screen 52" down in the office while he was here. After he left I did some errands and came back a couple hours later, flipped the Tv in the office back on and got the "no signal check source" deal on the screen. I checked the source and it was HDMI1 like it should be, yet no signal. I unplugged the HMDI cable and plugged it back in but still nothing. So I tried it in HDMI2 slot and it worked fine. After looking online I found an article that said to unplug the STB cable box, the TV and the HDMI cable and leave it unplugged for 10 mins. I did this and tried HDMI1 again and it worked fine.

The article didn't say why it would have happened in the first place. Anyone have this happen before and do you know what causes it? Is it some surge in the STB box maybe? Should I swap out the STB box or look for some sort of surge protection for the TV perhaps? It's a pretty pricey TV so I just want to make sure I do everything I should to make sure nothing happens to it.

Try to see if it works with another cable box or anything that uses hdmi. One of my tv's did that and it was the cable box.

Basically, turn it off and turn it on again wins again!! :)

What ever the source was probably went into power save. Did you turn that back on?

Also some cable boxes update themselves when left on for a while an no activity. I know the cisco box that I have does that. The box assumes there is no one there if you haven't changed the channel or looked at a menu after a while. When that happens to my box it always need to be power cycled (I have to unplug and plug back in).

Turning off most equipment is mostly putting it in standby

Plugin from one to the other probably caused one of the devices to retrain.

HDMI has to do link training to establish the resolution and rate that is being used and supported. If that is the case the issue is caused by the TV because it's technically the receiver. It has to determine the resolution the source is using.
