Quick Build Question
Posted

Right, I'll give it a go at the weekend. I was looking it up on a few of the PC forums and kept seeing horror stories from people where their PSU sparked and smoked. I had a nightmare trying to install the CPU fan (hyper 212 evo). I put a bit too much thermal paste on (or so I thought), I was told to let the pressure from the fan installation spread the paste so just did a slightly oversized pea in the middle. I then totally cocked up putting the fan on, I didn't realise a notch wasn't sitting in the hole for the 1150 board and I was told it would require pressure so didn't think too much of it. Anyway, after a week of worrying I took the fan off, cleared up the thermal paste which got on the cpu clamp after I twitched :P I think I have it fitted properly this time with less thermal gunk all over the place. But that is mostly what scared me from turning it on for so long.

Also had a bad time trying to line up the damn motherboard properly too. Felt like I was messing everything up. I was sweating like mad. Kind of regret not just buying one from PCSpecialist or something now, at least if it messes up I could send it back.

Assuming the PC works fine, I'll go ahead and buy windows to install onto it. Just wanted to make sure it booted first before I spent £80 on the OS.

Quick Build Question
Posted

Righto. I built myself a PC last year...yep, finished it up in September but I was too scared to turn it on. Now, I'm at that point I'm wishing I had a working gaming PC and I'm considering just plugging the damn thing in and hoping for the best.

- What I'm wondering is, what are the key things to look out for when booting it up for the first time? I don't have Windows to load up (tried to save a few pennies just in case it blew up)

- What are the odds on something blowing/burning etc?

- Can someone fucking hold me? :P Never been so nervous to do something in my life. Keep stopping myself from just turning it on out of pure fear of it blowing all of the components up.

Oh, and if it does happen to work, I have the PSU facing down and the tower is sat on the carpet. Not ideal but I guess that's okay? People must have done it for years, no...?

Thank you to any poor soul who helps me. Not worded it clearly at all.

Does your headset work on PS4?
Posted

They're patching all USB headsets in coming weeks, I'm pretty sure I've read Yoshida say that they will also open up the bluetooth to allow bluetooth headset connection after launch.

The FIRST patch won't come out until mid December but they haven't confirmed bluetooth headsets will be patched in that one. They did say that the headset issue was a priority and are looking to update that before everything else they want to add in.

I'm still not sure how the connection works. We only have Optical and HDMI output on the PS4, this is fine for me as my headset is Optical so I don't need a connection through the TV. The PX4 has an optical connection so I presume you would set up your headset the way you have it and then just use the connector. I'll have to look when I get on later but I THINK the game audio will still come through the headset as well as chat, if not then change it too all Audio output, works fine when I put my earphones in the controller.

Does your headset work on PS4?

I see what you mean now, it's very confusing. I'd think you'd just plug that accessory into the 3.5mm port on the controller? Like you plug a pair of earphones into it and all the game and chat volume comes through clearly. No idea where you stick the other end.

The RCA jack should be audio output on the back of your TV which you already have your headset connected to. Does the box have a 3.5mm connector on it?

PS4 Issues
Posted

Apparently it's just a few. It seems like a lot because they are the people you hear. Heard somewhere the failure rate so far was around 0.6% or a something very similar.

The pulsating light is possibly an issue with the 1.50 update. I saw this comment on an IGN post about it and most people said it fixed their pulsating light issue. I'll post it here in case this problem happens to anyone.

If your PS4 gets hung up at the pulsing blue light while rebooting after the 1.50 update, DO NOT UNPLUG THE PS4 TO TURN IT OFF! Doing this could run the risk of bricking your console.

Sony support had us go into Safe Mode to reset to factory defaults and re-initialize to fix the problem.

1. Hold down power button until the unit powers off and the light goes out. This took about 10 seconds.
2. Enter Safe Mode by holding down the power button until you hear 2 beeps. Release power button after the second beep. The Safe Mode menu will appear with a list of options.
3. Select Option 4 to restore PS4 to factory defaults. Once it's done, the system will restart.
4. In our case, after the reboot, the PS4 automatically entered Safe Mode. This time, they had us select Option 6 to Initialize the PS4. Note that by doing this, you will lose profiles and settings so just be aware that you are basically starting over. Once it's done, the system will restart.
5. When the PS4 comes back up, it will take you through the initial setup again as if it's being booted for the first time.

After that, we were back in business to play our games.

They had us go to the System Settings to see if the software version shows 1.5 and it does so we're up to date. We just hope this won't happen on every update.

This issue with the PS4 showing a black screen has been linked to a fault in the HDMI port on the back. Again, read this as it's more informative than I can be :P

Hopefully if anyone encounters these problems, this will help. Saves looking over the internet :)

Where have you preordered?
Posted

Mine is being delivered to my door step on release. I ordered from ShopTo on August 29th but was guaranteed release delivery a month or so back, maybe if I'm lucky they'll ship them out early as they like to do :D

£449 for the console with Ghosts and FIFA 14. So pretty good I think?

Hmm... I have £348.99 on the console, £44 on Ghosts and FIFA 14 is selling for £48...so you could have saved like £9 ordering them separately ;)

Actually you could have saved more since you could have canceled them :P
