Analysts have predicted by the end of the year that Switch will have outdone Xbox sales. Whilst never being a major Nintendo fan, after seeing it in action and then buying one, I have to admit I am in awe of how they've cleverly hit the handheld and console market so successfully with the Switch. The worry was always about the games, however whilst we still wait for more 3rd parties to create remasters and more games for it, the current selection of Switch games are all up in the 8/9/10 out of 10 games available. Microsoft just can't compete with just Halo being there only successful major exclusive product (imo). Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8, Zelda, Splatoon 2 and now Smash Bros. The port L.A. Noire looks impressive and bespokely made for their controls too. The one true gap for them really destroying the market is the community and friends capability. It's an extremely poor experience and one which you'd think they'd at least have a basic infrastructure built by now. Here's hoping they really invest in this to allow it to compete against all consoles side by side. Really impressive comeback after the Wii U.

Not with Sony though. Haven't had chance to grab the details however Microsoft want to allow gamers on latest versions to play in the same worlds together. They asked Sony, with the only details coming out so far is that they refused to be onboard with this stance. Not sure how mods go though as of yet as that is pretty much a key USP for Minecraft (just see why we're all playing it now).

This week Microsoft will be teasing their new console spec ahead of E3, which should be a full unveiling. It is expected to have 4k uncompromised gameplay and potentially more powerful than the ps4 pro - Terraflops and memory to be considerably larger. Talks have been we'll see Red Dead 2 being run on it to show its capability. That might be at E3 but its good to hear what we'll be looking forward to seeing on the day.

"I think the Xbox One hardware is just fine," Ed Fries remarked in an interview with CNET, carried out just prior to the release of Titanfall. "I like the fact that both Sony and Microsoft have gone back to a more PC like architecture like we did with the original Xbox. "I also like that every Xbox One is the same, which is important for developers," he added. "On 360, for example, you couldn't count on there being a hard disk." The console's online support is also a cut above, in Fries' view. "Microsoft has always been ahead in system software as well. Xbox Live is still the best and the new system is even better than before." Once Microsoft's vice-president of game publishing, Fries oversaw the evolution of the fledgling "DirectX box" into the obsidian behemoth we all know and love. "All the PC developers we knew were excited about it," he recalled of the original Xbox's advent. "Nintendo and Sony had a reputation for being difficult to deal with at the time, so I think the developers appreciated having another choice. "I was thinking about how to get my PC games group into the console business when [the DirectX team] approached me, so it was natural for me to support their effort," Fries went on. "It would be the easiest way for us to get in the business. The next step was for us to convince our bosses to give us a billion dollars or two to give it a try." So what does the Microsoft of today need to do, in order to overcome the competition? Continue to sign up exclusive games, it seems. "So far there aren't enough games for the system," suggested Fries. "If Microsoft can bring the best first- and third-party games to the platform then they will be tough to beat." Promisingly, "Game On" is the title of Microsoft's E3 press event. According to Head of Xbox Phil Spencer, 90 minutes isn't enough to fit in all the games there are to show. Having seen the graphics of this first hand at Eurogamer, I must admit that I was seriously impressed. If the gameplay and sound matches the graphics, then Turn 10 can genuinely be proud of themselves. It felt too clinical, to clean, nothing seemed wrong. It was just... too perfect. Even looking at cars in their garages, the garage looked like it had just been the location of a mass murder and a crime scene crew had cleaned it up. At least with Gran Turismo the cars were in pits, paddocks, museums, etc etc. Whereas GT4 (not 5) felt like the kid in a Focus RS hooning around a track at full tilt, Forza felt like a physics buff measuring g-forces in every corner in his perfectly tuned Nissan GTR. I don't know if that coes across really well, but for me, racing needs to have a bit of grit. A bit of danger. A bit of people sideswiping each other to get ahead. Forza just didn't have that. I'm not sure if I'll be getting this one myself, but as I said, if the graphics were anything to go by, then Forzaists have a fantastic treat to look forward to.
