It's an adaptation of the comic book. But, from what I understand, there are obvious major differences between the comic and the show. Not that it entirely matters. It is still a compelling story. No spoilers here... Only going to say that of all the annoying, stupid children I see in shows and TV, I oddly found myself saying "Stupid kid" a lot less in this show lol. Part of me was all "I want nothing to do with this." The other part of me said, "But, it could be a really cool story."
