Gaming Backlogs

Recommended Posts

What's the situation with your current backlog? Are you working through any of them during lockdown? Which games do you have that you'll likely prioritise?

I've really started to work on mine for the past week.  I've always wanted to play the games I own but AAA games always got in the way.  Online gaming is the beginning of my backlog, as soon as I got online, it was all I wanted to do but that obviously takes time away from playing single player games.  Even though nowadays I game single player most of the time, I still tend to go from playing one game for 10 minutes, to then another game and this cycle continues.

So I'm trying to make an effort to play smaller indie titles, games which won't takes me weeks or months to finish, so should be less chance of me getting bored or wanted something new and as I'm sure I've missed many gems by ignoring them.  Also due to the huge amount of games to play, I will only be aiming to complete the main story unless I really want to play the DLC.

So recently I've managed to complete Hamilton's Great Adventure, decent puzzle game but the levels start to feel samey, contains a decent story to follow too.  Fran Bow, this game is an incredible point & click game, it's got a dark theme, it's got a sad story and it's terrifying good.  Next up on my list of games to complete is another point & click game called Machinarium.

Not every game I will complete the story though as I might find them difficult even though I may put in many hours and This is the Police is one of them, I've had 2 attempts to get to the end now but I can't make it without dying.  It's something I'll keep trying with for now though.

My backlog of games is stupid, i'll defintiely not get through them all but will give it a good ol' go. I purchase the COVID-19 Humble bundle which has a fair few games i'd like to try, This Is The Police is one of them. Do you recommend it?

I'm currently playing The Long Dark, only played a couple of hours so far and really into it. Although it's reached a proper grindy part which i'm not too keen on, i will continue with it though.

I'm also playing Raft as there have been recent updates that added a load more stuff, will keep playing that until there's nothing more to unlock.

Tbh i've been editing more than gaming.

What do you edit? Videos?

The COVID-19 bundle is where I picked up This is the Police also.  It's also part of the reason along with HITMAN 2 and GRIS that I decided to buy the latest Humble Monthly, which contains This is the Police 2.  I am really enjoying the game, it's more about picking the right choices to be able to move forward, gameplay is super easy and the different ways you can make the story progress are fun to follow.  It's a decent game but you only get one life, so you need to make it count or you are back at the start.  Since you already own it, there isn't any harm in trying it out.

I also have The Long Dark, purchased a long time ago when it was simply just a survival sandbox, I've hardly touched the game since they started adding things like story mode.

Yeah just gaming videos for the forum.

Sweet, i'll have to give it a go soon. I like one life games, although they can be insanely frustrating!

Just before the Covid-19 crap I was actually struggling to find something new to play and I didn't really have anything saved for a rainy day either. However I managed to finally get into Dark Souls which has been a fantastic experience; so I further bought Dark Souls 2 to play when I'm done and already own the 3rd. That alone offers so many hours of gaming plus I would also like to play Sekiro and also considering Bannerlord. I'm also doing MW2 Remastered on PS4 with one mission every evening to drag it out.

I was expecting to play Final Fantasy 7 remake but I am giving that a miss and The Last of Us 2 is delayed along with Wasteland 3. I think I have enough to keep me going for sure!

I've played another couple of small titles.  Finally finished Machinarium which is a decent game.  The story is told through pictures which makes it a little harder to follow but the game does contain some fun puzzles to solve.  I also like the in-game walkthrough feature but you need to complete a little mini game to unlock for each level.

Another game I've finished is Seasons after Fall.  What a wonderful platformer this turned out to be.  The graphics and animations are wonderful and the narrative and story telling is great.  The game doesn't feature any kind of map, so getting lost early on is inevitable but you soon learn which ways you need to go.  The use of the seasons and switching them up to complete each section really adds to this game.  If I had any complaint, it would be it's too easy.  There is no challenge to the platforming or any puzzles that really make you think and there are no enemies but for what it does, it does it well.

The last game I just finished was Burly Men at Sea and I just can't recommend this game.  It's a story interactive book pretty much, graphically isn't pleasing, sounds and music is lackluster and it's super short.  It contains a few different endings but after just one ending, I decided I wasn't going to bother wasting my time as it won't add anything to the game.

Next game I've got installed and ready to play is Do Not Feed the Monkeys.

If i recall Burly men at sea was a PS plus game one.

I've finished and 100% 3 games of my back log.

Here they lie

Didn't really enjoy this but stuck with it till then end but it's like a horror walking novel and was a PS plus game some time back.

Gone home.

I quite enjoyed this game again same as above it's another walking novel game plenty of story.

What remains of edith finch.

My eldest son recommended this to me lucky i had it on my library again it's a walking novel (there's a pattern there) this one was pretty poor not sure why my son would put me through the pain playing this but the twist at the end was a surprise.

Mad max

Not a bad game you can fly through this game pretty quick if you just want to play it but as i'm trying for the plat it's quite a grind to which i think i've messed up so i either start over or try find another way to get the last couple achievements.

It was at one point.  I remember claiming the game, I just never actually got around to downloading or playing it.  I ended up getting it on PC as well as part of a Humble Bundle monthly.

Do Not Feed The Monkeys is a hella fun! It's difficult to earn money or know what to do sometimes but the game is addictive watching everybody's lives through web-cams and the various events you have to do research on.

Also finished The Tiny Bang Story, which is a very charming game.  It's graphically nice and the music is very relaxing.  This game isn't too long but with a few little niggles.  Puzzles in general are fairly easy to figure out, some of the jigsaw puzzle pieces you need to find are well hidden.  One or two puzzles can be a little difficult and one in particular can be frustrating due to the way the mouse interacts with the puzzle.  During the jigsaw sections, it lacks the music being played on a loop, so when it ends it's just silent until you finish that section.  Pretty good overall though.

I should really get back on Fallout 4. I've played about 80 hours of it and have yet to start the main mission. I made it as far as the Emerald city and then got side-tracked by side quests.

Plus all those constant requests for help, I'm unable to ignore them.

So, if I reinstall it I need to buckle down and do the actual story.

As it happens, just thinking about it now is giving me the itch, except I've started Fallout 76, which is better than I expected. So, we'll see.

@phil bottle haha, RPG's are a pain. I find I have too much choice and never actually figure out what I want to do. I have some RPG games I want to play and I'll get around to them eventually, I've lost count how many times I've started SkyRim.

So I've finished a few more games since my last post.  Limbo is a neat little game, dark, gloomy and overall a pretty fun game.

Spec Ops: The Line is a game I've tried to complete before but it was a time I would go from one game to another without much thought. I've finally buckled down to play this and I'm very glad I did. The game starts out like any other shooter but then the story starts to get going, the fights are pretty fun and some a little challenging. I like the cover system in this game, it isn't implemented perfectly but it works and looks fluid when done right. Some issues with shadows on characters during cutscenes and a big issue where changing mouse sensitivity doesn't have any effect, something you need to change in the files. Teammates don't like cover half as much as we do, so expect to spend time reviving. Giving commands is neat and can be very helpful and when given, your teammates actually get the job done. Great game overall.

Adr1ft I just can't recommend. I love space and this game looks nice and gives you the feeling of being helplessly stranded in space, but beyond this I feel it lacks. The missions are the same pick up an item, go repair said items to repair parts of your suit.  It's a floating simulator, very slow moving game. Controls can be tricky, so hitting objects is inevitable. At some point the music ramps up in intensity but you never feel in any danger, for a game like it could have benefited from more dangerous situations, something with more objects floating or in space between the station pods and some traveling fast, or even objects programmed to slam into you and create an image of needing to survive. If you like space games, you'll maybe like this but overall I wouldn't recommend the game to everyone.

Great thread @Spacedeck . I want to get through my backlog too but the latest MP games we all play will always be a main driver over the others as it keeps us together at a difficult time for us all.

I don't really play indie games either. Like in the PS Trophy thread, I think I'll focus on what I can do to get games platinum as it's an easier target rather than creating one of my own.

I'd love to complete at least one SP game over the next 4-8 weeks. I think I have to choose between:

Horizon Zero Dawn

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

God of War

I also want to do Final Fantasy 7 remake and original game cos I never finished that. I'll need to buy the new one first though.

@J4MES OX4D  not buying it just yet then?

I'm gonna see how far away the PC release is and then decide from there. The demo was pretty good but the framerate I found a bit uncomfortable. If the PC release is about a year away then I may just look to pick it up anyway during the summer.

I'd also go for God of War - that's about 35 hours. Jedi Fallen Order is about 12-18 and you could probably fit that in at some stage too. Definitely GoW is the best for me out of those.
