Never  ever thought I'd feel like you two about this but 100% accurate on both counts 😂

I still don't have a feeling that wants to watch it. Shame as I grew up watching them with my Grandad and a number of the old ones were iconic when they were made.

Im the same to be honest, I have no time for the modern ones especially the Daniel Craig films but I could chill and watch some of the older ones especially Roger Moore.

I actually enjoyed Spectre but more as a film rather than a Bond title. Skyfall and Casino Royale were both decent but there's something about the Daniel Craig films that don't feel right. I think the timeline being botched and all over the place is one big factor and they just try to be a bit too spectacular at times. I also saw how much special effects were used on the likes of Skyfall for even simple stuff and it really kills the immersion.

The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day is where the series faded but the old films are absolutely timeless.

I grew up watching these and had the entire series recorded on VHS at one time. Think it started the fade in quality for me after goldeneye. As for Craig I agree that casino royale and sky fall are good but The second is that bad I forget it’s name, and I could get behind it if they had kept that it was bond when just started out but after casino royale they just jumped to him being an old spy. Spectre I appreciated it went back to being a bit darker/more clandestine but then they got happy for all the explosions and then caught this newly revealed bad guy immediately.

What do you think needs to change in the format @Laidback Lankyman ?

Bond used to be like Batman back in the day which can be rebooted multiple times and it doesn't matter because you know its retelling some stories.

Do you think it needs to go to a young Bond next time, maybe when he is in training to make it feel different?

One thing I don't like about the newer Bond's is the amount of special effects. I watched a documentary a while back and the amount used even for basic things is just ludicrous and it makes the production look lazy. The work that used to go into the films from the Pinewood technical team was amazing especially seeing how creative they were from the foreground miniatures or to building ingenious rigs for set-pieces. I saw a thing about Skyfall where in one scene the room being used for the shot was 75% generated by computer - they couldn't even be fucked to get simple props in.  Although I enjoyed the Craig films apart from Quatum of Shithouse, they felt over the top in places and way too artificial.

This is where it all started going wrong for me

Before when they changed Bonds they never made a big deal about it on screen, they just made the film because they’d already got people used to the idea of Moore or Dalton being the new bond when they announced it.

Because they did the “young Bond” in Casino Royale I don’t think they can do that again so soon, especially as the amount of people that moaned that Bond shouldn’t have been as clumsy as he was in the film, even though they made the point clear he had just become an agent.

Part of the general problem (and really don’t want it to sound like it’s a generational thing, but....) they’ve fallen into writing and making movies for modern audiences that is to give them explosions, blockbuster level cg action sequences (which can definitely be shittier than they think as the previous video shows) and maybe a bit of tit for the dads/lads, and to distinguish it as a Bond film they kept the cheeky one liners.

There are good Bond films and not so good Bond films and occasionally a dog (looking at you QoS) but, for me, they’re like an old mate....enjoy their company, cut them some slack and chill with them

Good points on the modern stuff @Laidback Lankyman , I think it's totally a generation thing.

I'm with this sentiment - providing that they keep the films in the same dynamic rather than pushing to evolve it for the kids of today, cos they ain't interested.

You could argue it started out like long standing film series such as Carry On Films. For the ultimate bond lovers, I hope for their sake it's not the end for Bond, although I do fear for it going forward.

8/10, thoroughly enjoyed it, and I'm the furthest thing away from a fanboi that there is. A few little niggles in the directing but I'm chalking that down to pressures and time constraints due to the 'rona.

If you're a bond fan you'll love it, from the shit bond theme that'll no doubt clean up at the music awards to the bond girl who's supposedly a bombshell but is just mediocre and who nobody's ever heard of outside of a bond film, to the cars and gadgets and of course the shaken, not stirred line.

Very good, go see it.

I am thinking about going to see it soon. I think it just finally opened up here today. If I do, I'll wait a week or so. I'm a huge Bond fan, but I heard it's almost 3hrs long......UHG, that's not just long, that's Dances With Wolves long! lol. No movie needs to be 3hrs IMO 😬
