BO4 New Features

This was interesting watch, thanks James.

Good points

- I like that they are trying something different with the health regen. We're always asking for something different so no harm in trying it.

- Good to see its not all about kills and assists count as the same as kills. Coming from a person that wants to try and support the team with a kill but doesn't get rewarded much from it, seems like a great move.

Bad Points

- 5v5. I wish games could hold down a standard party size but at the same token, there doesn't seem to be many games going forward that support 6-8 player teams which would be a nice change.

Undecided

- The select player at the start of game. It's trying to follow Overwatch's style but I'm not sure that works in a CoD. Like some of you guys say, keep OW to OW. Depends if it really changes the way you play or its just another gimmick.

Overall though, seems like a game we could get some time sunk into it.

They're really going all out towards competitive, this looks completely geared towards team play, I wish they'd just leave pubs and competitive separate. I really don't like the pick a specialist especially for solo players and those that like to do challenges and wonder if it leads to people quitting games.

Im not sold on the scoreboard especially for tdm players but if it helps people play the objective it might be ok.

Do like the change to Dom part capping is actually a nice idea it always sucked getting killed 1 second before it's capped and now you can retreat if necessary too.

Shotgun secondaries 😁

One thing I do hope for is an improvement in hit detection so I don't have to default to hardcore.

Oh and sniping isn't as much aids as ww2.

I just don't get why they persist with making competitive a priority when it represents such a tiny amount of players and alienates the majority. Also the only good competitive format this franchise has ever had was on Black Ops 2 when COD was a dominant force in the genre and gaming as a whole. This franchise was at its best and sold more copies than ever when it was purely primarily casual. Heavy SBMM factors and general sweaty gameplay has seen the games become dead soon after Christmas.

Activision need to accept that this series will never thrive as an eSport, it will never see the online viewership like it used to and it wont generate commercial revenue like other more appropriate titles. I do find a lot of the changes interesting and potentially refreshing but BO4 is trying to be something that it's not and with no campaign either, people are going to be put-off in droves I fear. The scoreboard is a joke too - seems they rate 'damage dealt' as fashionable over more fundamental factors.

I dunno if they are trying too hard or have even completely misread the market or if they are just building the game around Activision's wishes but it's another developer and another year they have really missed the mark on how to make a hugely appealing COD game again. Already people are getting hyped for the prospect of MW4 because you don't really need to play BO4 to know if you will like it or not.

In casual play the fact you can only have one specialist per team is a bit stupid really. It's just going to lead to people constantly rage quitting when they don't get the character they want and/or people receiving abuse for picking a character that somebody else wanted. We know this will happen because COD players are utter pricks.

I hope for decent hit detection but doubt we'll get it. It's been shite since BO2.

And from what I've seen snipers are utterly ridiculous.

The one positive about this is that you wont run into a troll team all running the same specialist - 5 players all with deployed shields headglitching would be pure hell!

I do think this game could have a lot of exploits attributed to the fundamental design and that's something that simply can't just be patched out or changed easily when it's nailed down like the health regen.

So no full team with riot shields going full Sparta 😔😂

I can't see them staying with that for long tbh. They are copying Overwatch to the tilt and they'll find out very quickly that they will need a no limits option.

It's almost like the developers don't know their player base.

That's been the problem in this franchise for so many years now. They thought competitive was the way forward (along with wallrunning and outer space) when 99% of users are casual and not even a nosedive in sales and player counts couldn't hit home that this isn't what people wanted. The brand has failed miserably with the competitive focus so instead of writing it off; they've copied every other game in the last few years in one last ditch attempt but it will be the same old story I think; only this time, the competitive-heavy format will put people off entirely from purchasing. The series cannot get a foothold in the eSport arena and it makes very limited revenue from streams which is why nobody plays it.

How hard is it to make a military-themed 6v6 FPS with boots on the ground with real weapons, equipment and vehicles FFS without having to add farcical features such as superhero abilities, knee sliding, OP weapons and cartoony gadgets. This picture springs to mind again:

I played through Mw1, MW2, please let this franchise die already,, and Mw3 a bit over the last few weeks. Maybe its because I am old, but until they go back to that type of campaign, and multiplayer, then I am done with CoD.

I managed to pick up Infinite Warfare, and WW2 at Christmas time for about 20$, and the MP side of things just isn't fun anymore. I don't enjoy the esports bullshit, or the catering to that 1% that happens with Activision. Back to trying to beat Demons souls I guess.

I used to be hyped for COD as it was just almost the perfect game for me in the past and though I enjoyed bo3 CoD these days just doesn't have the draw. Will I buy it? Probably it might be a decent game but if it wasn't being made I wouldn't miss it. James post hit the nail on the head.

A bit off topic but I feel the same about battlefield this year too, BF4 for me was the pinnacle of FPS games once it was sorted and I'd find it hard to beat.

Yep, it's not even nostalgia that makes those games good - they are genuinely excellent titles that are still incredibly enjoyable today. No SBMM or competitive bullshit on shoebox sized 3 lane maps  - just pure varied fun despite some annoying elements. You don't need an over the top story, Hollywood actors or cartoony gimmicks to make a great experience yet these developers don't seem to understand that.

I cannot believe they aren't doing a modern day Battlefield 5 - what a wasted opportunity. This could've put COD to bed entirely with sheer ambition and really push the Frostbite engine to its maximum potential. I can't recall anyone asking for a WW2 shooter in the BF community and this industry is saturated with World War themed games. Another developer that's completely out of touch with its very own players and the wishes of the wider FPS community.

Yea, BF was best when it was at least close to present day. Larger more interesting MP maps, better gun customization, classes for gods sake! Not to mention the campaign always felt better.
