Hi Chaps! Does anyone fancy joining in on the open beta on the 6th October (this Friday)?

I have the first battlefront game but opted to get Destiny 2 instead of the second one coming out later this year. I'm not entirely convinced I'm going to get it either because I'm enjoying destiny so much, but I'd be happy to jump on for the free weekend if anyone else fancies it?

You've posted the artwork to the original Battlefront 2 game which has reminded me that Disney in response to EA have re-introduced mulitplayer support back into the original game which is excellent news! I will probably try the beta for Battlefront 2 2017 or however they are differenciating it from the classic but I'd now rather play the latter now it's back rather than the new one.

Wasn't impressed by the first one, will wait to see how this one plays out before getting it. They'll have to fix some major errors for this one to be a success, maybe listen to the community?  Not sure I'll have a chance to play the beta but great shout!

It was a game that looks brilliant because of they took the time to get Star Wars elements right but actual gameplay was meh.

Happy to give it a go. Battlefront games for me are good but always lacking a wow factor. I've never been bothered about dying and it always seems like its all over the shop and then the round ends.

Ultimately if you love Star Wars you'll just love it regardless.

Played a few matches on the beta and it is certainly better than the first but ultimately nothing special for me. Visually it looks great but it really does feel like a reskin of Battlefield with more casual mechanics thanks to ranged hipfire, bigger hitboxes and minimal zoom ADS. The ground based playlist was a combination of the payload mode from Overwatch which then turned into a capture based one whilst avoiding ticket bleed. It was reasonable fun but nothing I haven't seen before and done better elsewhere too.  I also tried the Starfighter Assault mode which was the flying one and found that to be quite boring actually. The controls weren't great either and it felt a little slow. Both modes were also affected by crippling rubber-banding which is a concern but should be fixed before release. There was also Arcade which can be played agains the AI - it's kinda like a wave-based mode. Another content filler feature and something that wont appeal to users looking for an MP experience or a SP one with meat. They deseperately incorporated this into the original but it's not needed in this one thanks to the campaign.

Like the first, I think this game will probably appeal more towards Star Wars fans rather than season FPS players. I think fans of the franchise will enjoy the game but fans of the genre will find it nothing too special and certainly nothing that hasn't been seen a million times over. As a fan of both the genre and Star Wars, I still see this as an average game because of my experience with other FPS games and the Star Wars branding can't really save it especially when it feels so much like a simplified Battlefield with lasers. That's another £40 saved for meB)

Currently the beta is showing you have no friends :( However, you can get around the issue by using the console’s built-in party system. Start a party using PS’s interface and invite your friends to join you. When you start the game, open the party menu and choose the option to 'Play Together' :)

Yeah so I'm not going to beat around the bush on this one.

I gave it an hours play last night to see how it compared to the first game.

I'm shocked at how visually impressive it is. However is it a game I'm willing to spend money on this year? Probably not. I got the sense again of *spawn-die-spawn-die* that I disliked in the first one, and didn't feel like I wanted to invest the time into ensure I'd stay alive longer than a minute.

Destiny 2 / Rocket League / Fortnight are more than good enough for me at the moment.

I have a couple of hours to it, I don't like the aiming system im not a fan of 3rd person anything tbh and the 1st person ranged aiming is erm hit or miss at best. The flight one gave a few moments of joy when I managed to hit something but it wouldn't last long.

The menu system and ranking up is awful and just smacks of micro transactions getting all your stuff from loot crates. Certainly no rush to spend hard earned on a this and I feel it will die pretty quick.

Campaign mode confirmed by EA to be 5-7 hours long. That's it.

Wasn't the first one slammed for not having any real content? I get the game is based on MP for endgame stuff but why is it so light again?

Like the first, unless you're into Star Wars, I don't see any reason to buy and play this. Even if you are a fan it already feels like a 'wait til half price game'.

The first one was god awful - felt like a Battlefield game with lasers. No single player element until one was thrown together which was basically survival mode or some wave based garbage. 5-7 hours which basically means 5 sounds about right compared to other AAA linear games with a priority MP componenet.

This game is definitely for Star Wars fans rather than seasoned FPS gamers. People that love wasting their money gambling will also enjoy the pay to win element.

It will take 4,528 hours of gameplay (or $2100) to unlock all base-game content in star Wars: Battlefront 2

Just a heads up. With the system implemented in Star Wars: Battlefront 2, it will take you quite a big wallet, or tons of free gaming time on your hand, to unlock the whole game.

Here is the break down:

Notes

I’m assuming that all cards are already possessed, are at level 3, and that the player has 0 credits and crafting parts left over. I’m also assuming that all one time rewards (challenges and level rewards) were used while getting the cards to level 3, so they are not factored in.

Cards from loot crates are assumed to be level 1 55% of the time, level 2 40% of the time, and level 3 5% of the time. Duplicate credit values are assumed to be 200 for a level 1, 400 for a level 2, and 600 for a level 3, this makes the average card level 1.5 and makes the average duplicate worth 300 credits. Loot crates are assumed to provide an average of 2 cards. Crafting parts are assumed to average 50. This makes the value of a crate (once you have every card in the game) worth 600 credits and 50 crafting parts. The credits are accounted for by reducing the cost of hero crates from 2,200 to 1,600.

The cost of upgrading a level 3 card to a level 4 card is 480 crafting parts. Only hero crates are bought because they are the cheapest source of crafting parts.

Players earn credits at a rate of 1,100 credits per hour.

Loot crates required are rounded up. All totals for gameplay hours are rounded to the nearest whole number.

This estimate ignores the time required to get all cards to level 3, the time required to unlock all heroes, and daily crates.

Troopers

There are 17 cards for each of the 4 base troopers. This totals 68 cards and will require 32,640 crafting parts. This will require opening 653 loot crates which will require 950 hours of gameplay (238 hours for a single base trooper class).

Enforcers

The enforcer class type has 5 cards. Upgrading these requires 2,400 crafting parts. This will require opening 48 loot crates which will require 70 hours of gameplay.

Aerial

The aerial class type has 5 cards. Upgrading these requires 2,400 crafting parts. This will require opening 48 loot crates which will require 70 hours of gameplay.

Armor

The armor class type has 6 cards. Upgrading these will require 2,880 crafting parts. This will require opening 58 loot crates which will require 84 hours of gameplay.

Speeder

The speeder class 6 cards. Upgrading these will require 2,880 crafting parts. This will require opening 58 loot crates which will require 84 hours of gameplay.

Starfighters

Each of the three starfighter classes has 9 cards. This totals 27 cards which requires 12,960 crafting parts. This will require opening 260 loot crates which will require 378 hours of gameplay (126 hours for a single starfighter class).

Heroes

There are 14 infantry heroes with 9 cards and 9 starfighter heroes with 9 cards. This totals 207 cards. Upgrading these will require 99,360 crafting parts. This will require opening 1,988 loot crates and will require 2,892 hours of gameplay (126 hours for a single hero).

Grand Total

There is a grand total of 324 cards. Upgrading these will require a total of 155,520 crafting parts. This requires opening a grand total of 3,111 loot crates which will require 4,528 hours of gameplay.

Final cost in crystals

The 600 credits received from a hero crate is worth 27% the cost of a hero crate. This is equivalent to 30 crystals. To account for this, I reduced the cost of a hero crate from 110 crystals to 80 crystals. 12,000 crystals can be bought for $100.

Opening the required 3,111 loot crates requires 248,880 crystals. If you only purchase $100 crystal packs, this will cost $2,100.

  • The3rdWalker changed the title to Star Wars Battlefront II

I'm fine with glitter and fuzz being loot boxes. I'm not arsed I don't have the shiny gun or whatever. But the second a game gives an advantage to people with paid for stuff... I am out.

Rainbow Six Siege is 12 matches to unlock an operator. That would make it 4.6 hours to earn at the 2,000 renown operator cost. Their alpha packs cannot be purchased with real money, and the items inside are purely cosmetic.
