EA has acquired Titanfall 2 developer Respawn Entertainment in a sensational deal worth close to $500 million depending on performance targets hit by Respawn. For that, read ‘Metacritic scores’. “We’ve seen firsthand the world-class calibre of Respawn as a development studio with incredible vision, deep talent and an inspiring creative mindset,” says Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA. “Our longtime partnership is grounded in a shared desire to push the boundaries and deliver extraordinary and innovative new experiences for players around the world. Together, we’ve brought this to life in the Titanfall franchise, and now with the Respawn team joining EA, we have exciting plans to accomplish even more amazing things in the future.” Respawn said it’s similarly pleased with the outcome of the deal. “While it wasn’t necessary, going with EA made a lot of sense,” said Respawn founder Vince Zampella. “With Titanfall and Star Wars, EA has been a great development partner that supports us and doesn’t interfere with our process for making games or studio culture. EA will provide us with more resources, access to new technologies, and expertise that we can tap into to that will help us make better games, and Respawn will retain the same creative freedom and culture we’ve always had. We’ve been talking closely with the leadership at EA and we share their values and vision for the future of being a developer-focused company that puts the players first.” I’m sure there will be many an eye roll at that last comment in particular.

Teaser trailer Looks amazing just like the first but I do wonder if gameplay and content will be any better than the first. Still, getting a TIE fighter, fighting as Chewy and blowing up the Death Star is a pretty cool start.

I really think (and hope) that all our main rebels in the new Rogue One movie should die. 1. Would give the movie extreme weight, not found in any of the other movies. 2. Makes continuity make sense. One of the main issues doing prequels is that continuity is always difficult. To me, you have these crazy effective operatives... yet make no appearance on the assault of the Death Star? Where were they on the Hoth base? Why weren't these people picked to attack the base on the forest moon of Endor? But if they die... it wraps it up nicely. We obviously have force sensitive individuals in this movie, if not outright Jedi. Why wouldn't Luke seek them out... why would Obi Wan and Yoda gather ALL the remaining Jedi? Because the ones they (the rebels as well) know about are dead or scattered. 3. With Star Wars: Rebels they have already nerfed the Empire enough. If you have watched that show, you know the Empire is basically a bunch of bumbling idiots who can't do anything right (at least as of Season 1, I admit I am a little behind). We need to see an Empire that can get stuff done. Earn the fear they have in the galaxy come Episode 4. Yeah, the plans get out...but the rebels need to be dead. Maybe one makes it out with the plans... the rest dead or captured. If we continue with this weak show for the Empire it totally invalidates any of the fear we felt through the original trilogy. (Also common misunderstanding is "Many bothans died to bring us this information" ... that was from Return of the Jedi regarding the SECOND Death Star.)
