  1. @GazzaGarratt Thanks for your comment and I'm glad you enjoyed Voodoo. I do tend to write dark music ... I'm not sure why ... it just comes out that way! I do have some happier tracks & remixes, but I think my brain tends towards the dark side!! ha ha!! Thanks for the videos. Orbital is one of my favourite bands, so I know Halycon On and On very well!!! - great track. My favourite Orbital tracks though are The Box (a dark track!) and The Girl with the Sun in her Head. The Rufus du Sol track is cool ... not really my thing, but I always appreciate talent and great tracks! Thanks for taking the time to listen ... very much appreciated 🙂
  2. @Plumbers Crack Thanks! I appreciate its not everyone's cup of tea. To be honest, its not the sort of stuff I'd sit down & listen to myself, bazaarly! Thanks for your comments ... much appreciated. I did write both with a soundtrack feel in mind, so I'm glad you said that! I haven't yet explored getting work from it ... its so difficult to get to the right people, but I might have a go! There's so much music out there now that people are now producing themselves, your stuff gets swamped !!!
  3. Hello!! Just thought I'd share 2 of my music compositions with you (written under the name 'Elusiv'). The animation/visuals were kindly created by Fraktalmeister. Comments very welcome ...
  4. Well, from my research, it seems that if you get a computer with Max-Q Design, they're quieter. https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/nvidia-max-q-faq https://en.softonic.com/solutions/what-are-the-best-quiet-gaming-laptops So far, I haven't found a 'quiet' one that's under £1000! 😤
  5. @Spacedeck It really doesn't matter what version, orchestra etc. - the music is usually the same, just played very slightly differently by different players (i.e. different interpretations) if that makes sense. There are different genres of classical music and they're based mainly on periods in time - medieval, baroque, classical, romantic, 20th century and modern. For example, Mozart is a classical composer, JS Bach is a baroque composer, Brahms is a romantic composer etc. etc. When I get a bit of time, I'll do a beginners guide!
  6. Thanks for your welcomes all. @Spacedeck - have you heard the Bach Violin Sonatas & Partitas? The 'Chaconne' is one of the best and if you like the cello, check out the Elgar Cello Concerto played by Jaqueline du Pre. Also check out some of Arvo Part's stuff - 'Fratres' is pretty mad. And Shostokovich if you like something a bit weirder. When I was a teenager, I was into metal & thrash metal ... moved onto techno, hard house & old skool later on, but appreciate all sorts of music (except Motown 😫 and Disco 💩). Good luck with the guitar - I had to practice violin in the bathroom so I didn't disturb the neighbours. Haven't even thought about where to start with games ... was going to ask my nephew ... he's hooked on them. Any suggestions for a novice very welcome.
  7. Cheers Plumbers Crack ... love a bit of Grappelli. I'm really crap at jazz though - its really difficult. I'm sure you weren't that bad at the violin ... it ALWAYS sounds bad for about the first 6 months because you have to learn to find the notes yourself (unlike piano, guitar etc.). Teaching beginners can be a bit painful, but usually worth it in the end. Crispymorgan ... nice to know there's some producers on here! I didn't realise there was a music thread, so will have a little scout around. Quite a few people seem to be going back to the reliable old Atari and hardware at the moment ... I think the Atari's timing and analogue sound can't be beat, but maybe that's just me because I'm a '90's kid (well, born in '70s). My set up at the moment is Atari 1040ST/Cubase v2.1, Roland JX-305, Akai S6000 sampler, Roland Vintage Synth & Novation A Station. I just bought the Roland GAIA, but regret that I sold my JP8000 years ago when skint. They're like rocking-horse **** now! My dad was a jazz drummer, but doesn't play anymore and is sadly selling his kit. I tend to use chopped up loops for my drums as I'm really bad at creating my own drum patterns. Thanks for the info. on Hot UK Deals ... will take a look. Still undecided what to get, but need to spend some time to find the right one.
  8. Hello & apologies for the late intro. I'm a new person on here, so here's a little bit about me. I'm not a gamer at the moment, but I'm looking for a laptop with a high refresh rate as I think my brain doesn't like 60Hz and gives me banging headaches. I figured that gamers seem to be clued up on techno computer stuff so thought someone on here might be able to recommend a tried & tested budget gaming laptop as I don't really know where to start - so many to choose from. Having said that, if I'm getting a gaming laptop, then I'll probably start gaming .... hmmm I'm into retro stuff and use an Atari for music production and I work as a violin teacher, so music is my main thingy. Thanks to everyone who's helped and sent me links etc. I particularly like crispymorgan's suggestion of an Etch a Sketch 😂🤣😂🤣 Bye for now ✌️
  9. Thanks crispymorgan. That's good ... I use an Atari with Cubase for music production at the moment and have a very noisy external SCSI hard drive hooked up to my sampler (fan noise) and I have to turn the whole thing off as its so loud. I'm guessing you can't turn off the fans on a laptop. It seems my Intro didn't post for some reason. Will do it again.
  10. Thanks Phil Bottle. Sorry if I made you think I'm not genuine ... I'm definitely not a market researcher .... I'm a violin teacher/musician!, but I totally understand that you have to be cautious 🙂. I've just added my introduction message and apologies for the delay. I was just asking about the fan as I'm intending to use the laptop for music production as well as other stuff, so a noisy fan isn't great when you're writing music. Hope this clarifies 😎✌️🙏
  11. Thanks ... yep, hard drive a good idea with the Etch a Sketch, but might need to hunt around for the right cables 🤔 I hear that some gaming laptops can be a bit noisy due to the fan ... can anyone tell me if they're all like that as I think that might do my head in a bit ... are some less noisy than others? Cheers
  12. Thanks Tronic44. That's great ... I'll have a proper look at the specs tonight. Thanks for spending the time to look into this for me. Sorry Phil Bottle for not introducing myself ... will do so ... just in a rush this morning. Maybe the Etch a Sketch is the way to go 😂🤔
  13. Hello. I wondered if anyone could give me some advice on gaming laptops please. I get bad headaches from 60Hz refresh rates and am looking for a budget laptop with a higher refresh rate (120Hz or 144Hz) but can't afford more than £1,000 tops. Would also need minimum of 4 USB ports. Does anyone have any recommendations please? Cheers
